Congratulations! You’ve decided to move for the first time. You have an exciting adventure ahead of you. But like all adventures, this one requires you to overcome a few obstacles and finally defeat your arch nemesis: moving day. As a reward, you’ll start a new life in a new place, and you’ll have more opportunities for personal and economic growth.
Keep that reward in mind as you begin this adventure. In the meantime, us give you the tools you’ll need to move to your new home with ease.
1. Ask family, neighbours, friends and moving companies for help.
In all the books you’ve read or the movies you’ve seen, how many heroes went on an adventure or quest alone? You’ll need a lot of helping hands if you want to efficiently move your household from one location to another. You shouldn’t have to pack everything, load it into the moving truck, drive the truck to your new home and unpack your belongings by yourself. Get someone you trust to assist you.
2. Don’t forget to take care of yourself.
You won’t have the energy or the patience to prepare for moving day if you don’t take care of yourself. Even if you feel too stressed to sleep, you still need eight hours of it. Drink soothing herbal teas or take warm baths to help you relax, and take sleep aids if necessary.
Additionally, don’t forget to eat healthy. You may feel tempted to order pizza, drink litres of caffeinated soda, etc. However, you need healthy fuel if you want to reach moving day with the stamina to conquer it. So remember to eat fruits and vegetables with every meal, and don’t forget to drink plenty of water.
3. Start packing way in advance.
Sometimes the relocation process seems overwhelming because think you’ll have to pack everything over the course of a single week-or even a single day. You don’t have to do this to yourself. As soon as you know you want to move, start putting any nonessential items in boxes. Then, you should start packing in earnest at least six weeks before moving day. You’ll feel less rushed and stressed as a result.
4. Label each box with the room and what you’ve packed inside.
As you pack, don’t forget to label what room the boxed items came from. Write the items you’ve packed inside as well. You may think you’ll recall what you put in each box-but remember, you’ll eventually have dozens or even hundreds of boxes. With labels, you’ll know exactly where to find everything.
5. Don’t pack the items you’ll need before the relocation.
Some people make the mistake of packing their toothbrush, shampoo, etc. before they move. Do not pack these items, and do not pack all of your clothes either. Keep the essentials in a suitcase just as you would if you went on vacation. You can then freely pack every thing else.
6. Downsize where possible.
You likely have a few items in storage that you don’t use anymore. So make your relocation easier and get rid of these items. The less you have to pack and carry, the easier your move will become.
7. Take breaks to have fun.
The relocation process often proves taxing. So don’t let yourself feelstressed in the months or weeks leading up to moving day. To feel less frazzled and more confident as you move, take the time to watch a film, spend time with friends, soak in a hot tub, etc.
As long as you follow the advice above, you’ll be more than ready to conquer moving day. If you have further questions about your move’s unique requirements, talk to your removalist.
